Diocesan Museum
The main cloister of the former Franciscan convent of San Giuseppe, built at the end of the 16th century, now houses the Diocesan Museum of Brescia, created to collect and preserve works of art from the city’s churches and religious buildings. The permanent collection is configured as a journey rich in suggestions in art: works of painting, sculpture, sacred goldsmithing, but also icons of Orthodox tradition, precious liturgical fabrics, illuminated manuscripts, without forgetting the important acquisitions of contemporary art that have taken place in recent years. All of this is contextualized in an accessible setting equipped with inclusive devices to allow users with visual and hearing disabilities to enjoy the collections. The museum is constantly animated by educational proposals, cultural initiatives, guided tours, conferences, meetings for discussion, exchange and training, renewing and confirming itself as a hub for citizens and a reference for all art enthusiasts.
Avogadro Altarpiece (1548/1550)
The scene takes place inside an apse with a semi-domed roof, creating a cozy effect. In the centre, on the steps are San Girolamo, San Giovanni Battista, San Paolo, Santa Maria Maddalena and Santa Caterina d’Alessandria. In the upper part of the representation, two angels discovering Jesus Crucified.
